South African international and domestic cricket is currently without several fast bowlers, who have been sidelined by various injuries.
The Paarl Royals’ Lungi Ngidi and Durban’s Super Giants’ Wiaan Mulder recently returned from injury to participate in the 2025 SA20.
But the Joburg Super Kings’ Gerald Coetzee and Pretoria Capitals’ Anrich Nortje have been ruled out of the SA20. Nortje has withdrawn from the Proteas’ Champions Trophy squad.
Left-armers Beuran Hendricks and Nandre Burger remain sidelined by injury. Right-armers Daryn Dupavillon and Lizaad Williams are also injured.
“We actually did a count. Currently there’s about nine South African fast bowlers injured across all the teams, so it is a worrying thing,” said Joburg Super Kings assistant coach Albie Morkel.
“We are trying to find reasons why, maybe it’s the lack of cricket, I don’t know. We lost three big guys in Lizaad, Nandre and Gerald recently, so it’s big for us and we have to juggle with the guys that we have.”
Fast bowlers Marco Jansen and Ottniel Baartman, who play for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, are currently among the leading wicket-takers in this year’s SA20. The Sunriers are the defending SA champions.
