Saturday’s player auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League was paused after auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed.
Edmeades collapsed during a bidding battle between the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings for Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.
“Our auctioneer is stable. The medical guys are attending to him. He should be back for the next set,” said a Board of Control for Cricket in India representative.
Edmeades, who has held this role since 2018, reportedly had low blood pressure at the time of the collapse.
The auction resumed after a 90-minutes delay. Edmeades was replaced by broadcaster Charu Sharma for the remainder of the auction.

“We’re very happy, pretty much bang on budget. He’s a proven IPL performer. Faf has done most of the work at the top of the order and we might not change that,” said Royal Challengers Bangalore director of cricket operations Mike Hesson.
“Still plenty of work to do. We have a number of young players on our radar. We have a few targets.”
