South Africa lost to New Zealand by 99 runs in Monday’s Over-60 World Cup fixture at the Ron McMullen Oval in Queensland, Australia.
South Africa captain Roy Meeser won the toss and opted to bowl first.
New Zealand posted a final total of 256 for three in the allotted 45 overs.
South Africa seamer Ismail Teladia completed figures of two for 41 in seven overs. Former Proteas spinner Omar Henry took one for 43 in nine.
South Africa reached 157 for nine in reply. Trevor Poole top-scored with 34 not out from 68 deliveries.
South Africa will play the United States of America at the Roy Thompson Oval on Tuesday – and West Indies at the Roy Henzell Oval on Wednesday.
They will then play the Rest of the World at the John Blanck Oval on Friday – and return to the Roy Thompson Oval to meet Pakistan on Saturday.
