Wynberg Boys’ High School formally opened the Jacques Kallis Indoor Cricket Centre on Tuesday, 23 September 2025.

The facility has been named after former Proteas cricketer Kallis, who attended Wynberg Boys’ High School before becoming arguably the best all-rounder in international cricket.

“This is an amazing facility. I have been fortunate enough to tour around the world and I can guarantee this is as good as a facility as you’re going to see,” said Kallis during the opening ceremony.

“It’s good to see Wynberg Boys’ High School investing. We need to keep investing in the kids so they can benefit from those who came before them.

“I remember, years back, [former Proteas head coach] Bob Woolmer and [former Wynberg Boys’ High School principal] Keith Richardson had the idea to have this sort of facility.

“It was an idea that was in the pipeline for a long time. To see it today is magnificent. The cherry on top for me is for it to be called the Jacques Kallis Indoor Cricket Centre.

“Wynberg Boys’ High School will always be a part of me. I am very proud to be associated with the school and the direction in which it is going.”

Former Proteas team-mates Graeme Smith and Mark Boucher also attended, which included a speech from Wynberg Boys’ High School director of cricket Esmund van Wyk.

The indoor centre overlooks Wynberg Boys’ High School’s main cricket field – the Jacques Kallis Oval – which is also named after South Africa’s leading Test and ODI run-scorer.

Wynberg Boys’ High School has produced other international cricketers, too, including current World Test Championship title winners Kyle Verreynne and David Bedingham. Former Proteas batsman Richard Levi and seamer Charl Willoughby also attended Wynberg Boys’ High School.
