Durbanville Cricket Club seamer Jody Lawrence was named in Western Province’s squad for this week’s 4-Day Domestic Series fixture against the Free States’ Knights at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

Lawrence, however, was not named in the playing XI, as fellow seamers Tshepo Moreki and Beuran Hendricks returned.

Lawrence joined Durbanville Cricket Club in 2019. He previously represented Avendale Cricket Club and the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club.

He recently played for the Atlantic Pirates in the Cape Premier League – and was among the top wicket-takers.

Western Province currently occupy last position in division one of the 2021-22 4-Day Domestic Series. They have lost two matches and drawn the same number.

They are without all-rounder George Linde and wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne, who are with the Proteas for the ongoing Test series against India. Seamer Beuran Hendricks, though, has returned.

Tony de Zorzi will captain the side and he welcomes back bowler Tshepo Moreki from injury. Bowler Jody Lawrence, from Durbanville Cricket Club, has also been included in the squad. Nandre Burger is the only contracted player unavailable due to injury,” read a statement from Western Province.

“WP Academy coach Roger Telemachus will be assisting coach Salieg Nackerdien in the absence of Faiek Davids, after the passing of Davids’ brother this past week.”
