All-rounders Johan Fourie and Kyle Smit have been ruled out of South Africa Over-40’s Africa Cup campaign this month.
Fourie and Smit have been sidelined by respective hernia and knee operations.
They had been named in the South Africa Over-40 squad shortly after May 2023’s inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg.
Fourie and Smit played for Lions Over-40 and East Rand Over-40, respectively, at the inter-provincial tournament, which was won by Western Province Over-40.
Former Proteas batsman Ashwell Prince captained Western Province Over-40, who won the inter-provincial tournament. Prince was later named South Africa Over-40 captain, but has since withdrawn.
Lions Over-40 batsman Warren Dugmore, who had been named South Africa Over-40 vice-captain, has since been promoted to captain in Prince’s absence.
The four-team Africa Cup will also include Zimbabwe Over-40, South Africa Over-40 Invitational and Namibia Over-40.
South Africa Over-40 Invitational will be without left-arm seamer Luke Knipe. He was named in the South Africa Over-40 Invitational squad earlier this year, but has since been sidelined by a shoulder injury.
