Gelvandale Cricket Club have signed batsman Josh Chippendale and leg-spinner Dyllan Matthews ahead of the 2022-23 Eastern Province Cricket premier league.
Matthews played for Rondebosch Cricket Club in Cape Town before joining KwaZulu-Natal Inland. He has since been given a high performance contract at the Warriors.
Chippendale played for Strandfontein Cricket Club in Cape Town before being contracted by the Warriors in Port Elizabeth.
Former Proteas batsman Ashwell Prince played for Gelvandale Cricket Club before moving into coaching.
“You have to ask the question, why is it that guys like Josh Chippendale have to make a career outside Cape Town,” former Western Province coach Prince was quoted as saying by the the Plainsman earlier this year.
“The talent is not being recognised in his own province, which means there’s a lot of problems in the system or pipeline.”
Jacobs returns and Rosier stays
Warriors all-rounder Kyle Jacobs, meanwhile, has returned to Gelvandale Cricket Club after a stint with Nelson Mandela University (Madibaz).
Warriors batsman Diego Rosier has remained with Gelvandale Cricket Club.
