Batsman Joshua Chippendale is motivated to contribute to the Warriors’ 2022-23 domestic season after leaving Western Province.
Chippendale was with the Western Province Colts during the 2021-22 season and played for Strandfontein Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association first division A.
He has since joined the Warriors on a high performance contract. Former Western Province players Siya Plaatjie and Dyllan Matthews have also joined the Warriors on high performance contracts.

“I came down in January and played an inter-squad game, before heading back to Cape Town and then returning to be with the squad a week later,” Chippendale told the HeraldLIVE.
“It wasn’t a difficult decision for me to make. The squad made me feel very welcome in that first stint here, so I knew the environment I was returning to.
“I am looking forward to the journey – it is something new for me. I am surrounding myself with some talented professionals who are either still playing or have played at the highest level.
“Coming into the professional arena, I think it certainly is a step up in intensity from playing at club level. The intensity is completely different from at club level – the work ethic, how they play.”
Prince on Chippendale move
Former Cape Cobras head coach Ashwell Prince recently commented on Chippendale’s departure from Western Province to the Warriors.
Prince attended Strandfontein Cricket Club’s awards ceremony for the 2021-22 Western Province Cricket Association season at Newlands, where Chippendale was named the club’s Rookie of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player and Batsman of the Year – first XI.
“You have to ask the question, why is it that guys like Josh Chippendale have to make a career outside Cape Town. The talent is not being recognised in his own province, which means there’s a lot of problems in the system or pipeline,” Prince was quoted as saying by the the Plainsman.
