Former Proteas batsman JP Duminy has agreed to be head coach of Boland for South Africa’s 2022-23 domestic season.
Duminy was the Lions’ batting coach during the 2021-22 season. He also worked with South Africa’s coaching staff during the 2021 T20 World Cup.
In 2019, Duminy was with the Paarl Rocks’ coaching staff in the Mzansi Super League.
“We are delighted that JP decided to accept our appointment. He understands and shares our vision for cricket in the region,” said Boland Cricket chief executive officer. James Fortuin.
“Moreover, I have no doubt that JP will build on and enhance the winning culture we have established.”
Whay Duminy said
Duminy has succeeded former head coach Adrian Birrell at Boland.
Birrell did not stay with Boland “due to personal reasons,” according to Boland Cricket acting president Godwin Von Willingh.
“When thinking about the Boland region, I was certainly astounded by how far it extends in terms of communities. And I realised anew the rich history the region has and especially the region’s love of sport,” added Duminy, who has featured on CoachED’s Changeroom Chats. CoachED is a global cricket coach education company, which provides certification through online cricket coaching courses for coaches and players.
“My interest and passion lie with serving and helping people become the best version of themselves. My heartbeat is to see players expand holistically. To facilitate and influence players in understanding their role in society goes far beyond their performance on the cricket field.”
Boland compete as the Rocks in division one of the 4-Day Domestic Series, One Day Cup and T20 Challenge.
Duminy played 46 Tests, 199 ODIs and 81 T20Is from 2004 to 2019. He also represented several teams in the Indian Premier League – and played in other domestic T20 tournaments around the world such as the Caribbean Premier League.
