Bellville Cricket Club seamer Justin Dill welcomed a career-best innings haul on day two of Western Province’s CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup fixture against South Western Districts at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.

Dill claimed six for 25, as South Western Districts were limited to 110 all out. His previous best was six for 34 for Boland against Eastern Province. This is the fifth time he has taken five or more wicket in an innings in 30 first-class matches.

Western Province had amassed 314 for eight declared on the back of a big century from debutant Zac Elkin.

Elkin was eventually dismissed for 162 late on day one. He faced 256 deliveries and struck 17 fours during 408 minutes at the crease.

His score is among the 12 highest struck in this season’s CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.

Elkin’s ton also marked the first by a non-Proteas batsman for Western Province in first-class cricket this season. Test cricketers Zubayr Hamza and Pieter Malan hit 183 and 124, respectively, against Northern Cape in November 2019.
