Justin Ontong and Roger Telemachus in contention for Boland head coach job

Former Proteas cricketers Paul Adams, Justin Ontong and Roger Telemachus are reportedly among the 20-plus candidates to replace former Boland head coach JP Duminy.

Duminy was head coach of Boland for one season before joining the Proteas support staff.

“We had 29 applicants and have whittled it down to a list of between three and seven,” Boland chief executive officer James Fortuin told Rapport.

Adams has not been re-contracted by Border and Ontong has been replaced as Proteas fielding coach. Telemachus has recently worked with with Western Province Under-19 – and Kraaifontein Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

“We feel it’s better to take our time and complete a thorough process in order to get the best man for the job,” Fortuin told IOL.

“We are looking for a knowledgeable and dynamic professional coach. We are really looking for good people, someone in the mold of JP Duminy.”

Boland have recruited Proteas batsman Keegan Petersen and seamer Glenton Stuurman from the Dolphins and Warriors, respectively.

They have also contracted batsman Aviwe Mgijima and seamer Akhona Mnyaka from Western Province and the Warriors, respectively.
