Whether Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada returns to the 2025 Indian Premier League remains in the balance.
Rabada played two matches for the Gujarat Titans in this season’s IPL before returning to South Africa.
“We are just waiting for Rabada,” said Gujarat Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor.
“He might return. He’s got some family, personal problems, for which he’s gone. Once he’s sorted out with that, if it’s sorted out in time, he will be back. But we don’t know when. We are just waiting as everyone is.”
Several other South Africans are involved in this year’s edition of the IPL, including the Chennai Super Kings’ Dewald Brevis.
Batsmen Aiden Markram, Matthew Breetzke and David Miller are with the Lucknow Super Giants.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have Proteas pair Heinrich Klaasen and Wiaan Mulder.
Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is with the Royal Challengers Bangalore – and all-rounder Marco Jansen is with the Punjab Kings. The Mumbai Indians have South African duo Corbin Bosch and Ryan Rickelton.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and fast bowler Anrich Nortje are with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee is with Gujarat.
Batsmen Faf du Plessis, Tristan Stubbs and Donovan Ferreira are with the Delhi Capitals.
Chennai and Mumbai are the most successful teams in the history of the IPL with five titles each. Kolkata have three titles and are the reigning champions after beating Hyderabad in the 2024 final.
