Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the remainder of this year’s Indian Premier League.
Rabada took 11 wickets in 11 matches for the Punjab Kings in the 2024 IPL. Punjab, who currently occupy last position in on the 10-team points table, failed to qualify for the play-off stage of the IPL.
“Kagiso Rabada has returned home from the Indian Premier League due to a lower limb soft tissue infection,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
“The 28-year-old consulted a specialist on arrival in South Africa and is being closely monitored by the Cricket South Africa medical team.
“His preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and United States of America is not expected to be affected.”
South Africa have been pooled with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal in group D at this year’s T20 World Cup. The Proteas have never won the tournament. They were losing semi-finalists in 2009 and 2014.
