Former Strandfontein Cricket Club player-coach Keanan Mitchell will represent two clubs during the 2019-20 Western Province Cricket Association season.
Mitchell has formally joined Avendale Cricket Club in the WPCA first division B as a player-coach. He has also been hired as coach of Somerset West Cricket Club in the women’s premier league.
What Mitchell said
“Avendale will be my new home for now and the goal is simple – gain promotion and get back into the first division A and beyond. It won’t be the easiest task, but it is one that excites me,” Mitchell told Club Cricket SA.
“I will also be coaching Somerset West Cricket Club’s women’s team. A lot of credit has to go to Alexa Jooste for backing me – and giving me the experience to be involved in the ladies set-up.”
Mitchell’s tenure as Strandfontein Cricket Club’s player-coach was not renewed last month. He was offered the opportunity to stay as a player, but opted to move to Avendale Cricket Club.
“It would’ve been great to be with Strandfontein Cricket Club in the WPCA premier league, especially after being on a high in achieving promotion and having won the Ama20 Competition first division A title with them last season,” he added.
“I am grateful to have been coach of Strandfontein, but for reasons that are out of my control, it’s best I part ways with Strandfontein to focus on my goals and career.”
