Kraaifontein Cricket Club have signed Worcestershire fast bowler Josh Tongue for the second half of the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Tongue’s stint with Kraaifontein Cricket Club won’t likely span beyond January. He has been named in the England Lions squad for February’s series against Sri Lanka.

“Former England Under-19 and current Worcestershire fast bowler Josh Tongue will play for Kraaifontein Cricket Club after the December break,” read a statement from CPT Cricket Tours.

“Tongue will join Proteas and Kraaifontein Cricket Club seamer Dane Paterson in spearheading a bowling attack looking to get stuck into the business end of the club’s maiden WPCA premier league campaign.”

CPT Cricket Tours were also responsible for signing Worcestershire wicketkeeper-batsman Gareth Roderick to Green Point Cricket Club for the ongoing WPCA premier league.

“Josh will join his Worcestershire team-mate Gareth Roderick in Cape Town. Roderick is currently among the 2022-23 WPCA premier league’s top run-scorers as he, and Tongue, continue preparation for the upcoming UK county season.

“An outright fast bowler with 143 first-class wickets at an average of 25.25, we are very excited to see Josh in action.”
