Proteas fast bowler Kwena Maphaka’s final matric results were announced this week.
The 18-year-old debuted in the Indian Premier League – and at Test, ODI and T20I level – in 2024. This was also his final year at St Stithians College.
These were reportedly among Maphaka’s subject results:
- 78 percent for history;
- 76 percent for English;
- 75 percent for Afrikaans; and
- 73 percent for life orientation.
“We are very proud of Kwena’s achievements and his many good results in his final examinations,” said St Stithians College headmaster David du Toit.
“In particular and taking into consideration the massive disruptions of Under-19 World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and his Proteas tour to the West Indies, he has shown resilience, discipline and independence in having to complete some of his curriculum online with tutors or on his own.
“What is truly remarkable about Kwena was his determination to continue to serve the school as a prefect, as a mentor to juniors, and as our first team hockey captain despite all of these external commitments and opportunities.
“The support that Kwena enjoyed from his mom and dad should not be understated as they consistently engaged with his teachers and with the school and did all they could to ensure that he could fulfil his cricket dreams while still maintaining the high academic standards he has always worked towards.
“We must also acknowledge the support of Cricket South Africa who always did their best to ensure that Kwena had tutors available, even on tour.”
Maphaka is currently playing for the Paarl Royals in the SA20. He is team-mates with fellow 18-year-old and former St Stithians College pupil Lhuan-dre Pretorius at the Royals.
Maphaka has not been included in South Africa’s Champions Trophy squad.
