“I will forever be grateful to Easterns for taking a chance on me,” said Gamiet.

“A huge thanks to [former head coach] Richard das Neves and [former assistant coach] Tumelo Bodibe for giving me the freedom to do my job as I see it.

“And the players and Easterns family, who always wanted to improve and who always displayed a work ethic second to none.

“It was a pleasure working with every single player. I’m really looking forward to the Boland journey with pure excitement and eagerness. I am aiming to make a significant contribution at Boland.”

Boland’s head coach will be former Ireland head coach and Proteas assistant coach Adrian Birrell.

He will be assisted by batting lead Salieg Nackerdien.

Boland have been placed in the first division of the country’s new domestic structure, which will return to provincial cricket later this year. Franchise competition in South Africa has been dissolved.

Former Proteas trio Stiaan van Zyl, Kyle Abbott and Hardus Viljoen are among the players Boland have contracted. Ex-Cape Cobras batsmen Pieter Malan and Janneman Malan have also been included.
