Langa Cricket Club’s second XI have been withdrawn from the remainder of the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association reserve division A.
The second XI occupied last position in the reserve division A’s 12-team standings prior to Thursday’s exit, after several heavy defeats to Milnerton Cricket Club, Claremont Cricket Club, Cape Town Cricket Club, Western Province Cricket Club and others.
They failed to gather one victory, occasionally did not field 11 players – and consistently posted totals under 100.
“[Fixtures have been revised] after the withdrawal of Langa CC in the reserve A. All their matches will be treated as byes,” read an excerpt from WPCA club cricket and facilities co-ordinator Lindsay O’Malley on Thursday.
Langa Cricket Club chairperson Precious Kopane and secretary Vuyo Damane, however, were not aware of the withdrawal.
“I am hearing about this for the first time now. The association should have informed us about the decision. I had already confirmed with United Cricket Club that this week’s reserve A division match would be played at Langa Cricket Club. We were ready for them,” Kopane told Club Cricket SA.
Damane added: “This is all news to me. I was unaware of the withdrawal.”
Langa Cricket Club’s first XI, meanwhile, are at the bottom of the WPCA premier league log. They, too, have not managed a victory this season – in 16 attempts.
