Former Western Province Cricket Club head coach Laurie Ward has been appointed assistant coach and batting lead for Western Storm.
Ward coached Western Province Cricket Club’s premier league XI for three years before exiting in August 2022.
Western Storm compete in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup – England’s leading women’s domestic limited-overs competitions. Ward will assist Storm head coach Trevor Griffin.
“This is a great challenge and one I am really looking forward to. Working with Trevor and some of England’s brightest talent in women’s cricket is where I can add plenty of value,” Ward told Club Cricket SA.
“I’ve worked with several Proteas Women cricketers in the past, including Laura Wolvaardt and others. I’m excited to continue my coaching at that level.”
The Northern Diamonds, meanwhile, have signed Proteas Women all-rounder Chloe Tryon for the 2023 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
