Brackenfell Cricket Club have welcomed the return of wicketkeeper-batsman Lee-Roy Walters for the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Walters missed the entire 2021-22 WPCA premier league due to injury.

“Even though he never officially left the club, a long-term injury kept our captain out of the whole of last season,” said Brackenfell Cricket Club head of cricket Francois Gantz.

Walters played a decade of first-class cricket for Boland and Eastern Province from 2005 to 2015. He was also capped at List A level by the Warriors.

“We really missed Lee-Roy’s experience the previous season. To have him back is a massive positive for the club and the first team,” added Gantz.

“I know how hard he worked to get back on the field – a true reflection of him as a person and his character.”

Kleynhans, Moore, Mamhiyo and more

Brackenfell Cricket Club have recruited added all-rounder Philip Kleynhans to a growing list of pre-season arrivals.

Earlier this month, they announced the arrivals of batsmen Eddie Moore and Godwill Mamhiyo.

“As a youngster, Philip played for Brackenfell CC, but then went on to play for Stellenbosch University Cricket Club (Maties) from 2018 to 2022,” said Gantz.

“During that time, he joined the Boland Academy and represented the Boland Colts during the 2021-22 season.

“Philip’s signing and return is a crucial part of our vision at the club. While we are committed to gain senior players with experience, our focus to develop our young guns is crucial and our main focus.

“To have this talented young player back at the club is a big step in the right direction. I am really excited that Philip is back where he belongs.”

Brackenfell Cricket Club finished in ninth position in the 2021-22 WPCA premier league, after eight wins and 12 defeats.
