What Lentegeur Cricket Club said

“Lentegeur Cricket Club was established in 1985 and due to facility problems, players relocating to other areas and no administrators to lead the club, the club closed in 2015,” Lentegeur Cricket Club secretary Zeralda McCarthy told Club Cricket SA.

“At the time, players joined up with clubs in Mitchells Plain and clubs in other areas. During 2022, one of the founding members, Wilfred Cilliers, was approached by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and the Western Cape Education Department.

“They wanted to re-establish cricket in the community due to a new facility being built on Lentegeur Secondary School, which will consist of a clubhouse as well as a state of the art cricket pitch.

Ex-players were approached and, because of their passion and eagerness for cricket, the club was revived.

“We established a strong executive committee with years of experience and announced Shamiel Voegt as the head coach. He comes with an exceptional coaching background.

“The club will register two senior men’s teams, one female team and three junior teams for the upcoming season.

“To build on our previous legacy, we are committed to become the cricket club of choice within the Mitchells Plain area – and are working hard to provide the best all-round players for years to come.”
