The Limpopo Impala Cricket Board have appointed new chief executive officer John Openshaw.
Openshaw has succeeded former Limpopo CEO Tommy Phiri, who tenure was ended by “mutual separation agreement” earlier this year.
“We are proud to announce the appointment of Mr John Openshaw as the new chief executive officer, effective 1 June 2025,” read a statement from Limpopo.
“This strategic appointment marks a new era for the organisation as it continues its commitment to excellence, transformation, and the development of cricket in the Limpopo province.
“Mr Openshaw brings with him a wealth of experience in sports management, strategic leadership, and stakeholder engagement. With a proven track record in driving growth and fostering inclusive participation at all levels of the game, he is ideally positioned to steer Limpopo Impala Cricket into its next phase of development.
“Mr Openshaw will oversee all operational and strategic functions of the organisation, working closely with the board, affiliates, and community partners to build a sustainable cricketing future for the province.”
Limpopo compete in division two of South African domestic cricket. They have signed former Northern Cape duo Emmanuel Motswiri and CP Klijnhans , but lost all-rounder Hardus Coetzer and spinner Kgaudisa Molefe to Border, all-rounder Morne Venter to Northern Cape and seamer Jesse Albanie to Easterns.
Openshaw, who previously served as North West CEO, added: “I’m excited about my appointment, cricket has always been my passion, family passion. When I was given the opportunity to lead LIC, I was happy as Limpopo is my second home. My role here is to guide the ship as best as I can and lead the organisation to the top.”
Limpopo are hiring a new head coach. Former head coach Gordon Parsons‘ tenure ended earlier this year.
