Batsman Shane Dadswell has been named in the Lions’ squad for Cricket South Africa’s new T20 Knockout tournament.

Dadswell struck a record 490 for North West University Cricket Club (Pukke) against Potch Dorp Cricket Club at the Witrand Oval in Potchefstroom during the 2017-18 North West Cricket premier league victory.

He had not played provincial cricket at the time, but has since been capped at T20, List A and first-class level by North West.

Dadswell, though, has not been named among North West or the Lions’ contracted squads for the country’s 2021-22 domestic season.

Lions before the USA for Carmi le Roux

Seamer Carmi le Roux, who is due to represent The Philadelphians in the Minor League Cricket Championship in the United States of America, has also been selected by the Lions.

The team will be captained by batsman Ryan Rickelton.

Former Proteas batsman JP Duminy is among the Lions’ coaching staff.

“The boys are itching to get their season underway. Their pre-season prep has gone according to plan, and now it’s time to get out and play and to enjoy and represent our union with pride, giving it all we’ve got in everything we do,” said head coach Wandile Gwavu.

The Lions, who are effectively Gauteng but have retained the franchise name, have been pooled with Western Province, South Western Districts and Northern Cape for the T20 Knockout competition.
