The Lions Women’s contracted squad for the 2024-25 domestic season in South Africa has been confirmed.
The Lions have contracted former Proteas Women fast bowler Shabnim Ismail. Cricket South Africa-contracted batter Tazmin Brits has joined the Lions, too.
“I am thrilled with our squad and I know we will be a force to be reckoned with. Our experienced players will know what’s needed of them and when – and our youngsters bring with them their freedom, hunger and immense talent,” said Lions Women head coach Shaun Pretorius.
“To welcome Tazmin Brits into our pride is massive – we are grateful and know that we have a good thing going when a player of this magnitude chooses your pride to call home.
“Add to that our other Proteas players, and we have a powerful pride ready to attack. Having said that, though, our national players have a crammed schedule, particularly for the first half of our season, which is why having the depth and hunger in the remaining 18 players is essential.
“We have massive talent in this province and are hugely grateful for the likes of Shabnim Ismail who, despite her busy schedule, will fight for her pride. Our pace bowlers will need to step up when the likes of Ayabonga Khaka and Tumi Sekhukhune are on national duty.
“The same can be said of our batting – when Sinalo Jafta and Chloe Tryon are away, we’ll look to our younger talent to step up, express themselves and provide a solid foundation with the bat for others to follow.”
