Devil’s Peak Dragons spinner Marcus Fourie was named Bowler of the Tournament for the 2021 edition of the Cape Premier League.
Fourie claimed 18 wickets in nine matches. Four came against the District Sixers in the closing play-off and another three against the Atlantic Pirates in the final.
He took fewer wickets than Dragons team-mate David Schierhout and Pirates seamer Luke Petersen, who claimed 19 and 22, respectively.
Fourie, however, effectively beat Schierhout and Petersen to the accolade with a superior economy rate of 4.71. Petersen and Schierhout cost 6.79 and 6.71 per over, respectively.

“All credit to the team and it was a good wicket here at Western Province Cricket Club. It offered some turn,” said Fourie.
“It was a great competition and really good to play against the best players in the Western Cape.”
Who was named Batsman of the Tournament?
Pirates wicketkeeper-batsman Fritz de Beer was named Player of the Tournament and Batsman of the Tournament.
De Beer struck 472 runs in 11 innings at an average of 47 and strike rate of 158.
His tally included five half-centuries and a highest score of 97 not out against the West Coast Outlaws.
More CPL context
The Dragons succeeded the Cape Vikings as the CPL reigning champions. The Vikings won the inaugural final against the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls in 2019. The CPL was not played in 2021.
