Dolphins assistant coach Mduduzi Mbatha has been appointed Northern Cape head coach ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season in South Africa.
Mbatha has succeeded former Northern Cape head coach Mark Charlton, who joined the Warriors last year.
Northern Cape assistant coach Deon Carolus was interim head coach prior to Mbatha’s appointment.
“It is an honour and privilege to be appointed head coach of the Northern Cape Heat team. I am grateful to the Dolphins for the opportunities that have fuelled my growth, and I thank the interim coach for their leadership last season,” said Mbatha.
“I’m excited to start this new chapter with Northern Cape and look forward to making a positive impact on the team. I’m thrilled to join the Northern Cape Heat family and contribute to its success.”
Meanwhile, seamer Alfred Mothoa has moved to North West. Mothoa was at the Warriors in division one for two seasons – and previously played for the Titans and Knights.
“I always wanted to go to Potchefstroom, even before I went to the Warriors, but obviously things did not work out. But, yes, I am at North West now,” Mothoa told OFM.
“I enjoyed Port Elizabeth and I think I left a mark on the youngsters there. It’s time for me to move on. I am 35 years old, but I feel I have a few more years in me to push through.
“I like how North West play cricket – they play hard cricket. Even though they have not won any trophies recently, they are edging closer every season.
“I want to get into the North West environment and add value. Hopefully, I can help the youngsters and work well with head coach Craig Alexander and the team.”
