All-rounder Rashid Khan has effectively criticised Australia’s decision to withdraw from March 2023’s series against Afghanistan.
Australia were scheduled to play three ODIs against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates in March 2023.
This week, however, they withdrew.
“This decision follows the recent announcement by the Taliban of further restrictions on women’s and girls’ education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms,” said Cricket Australia.
Khan is currently playing for MI Cape Town in the SA20. Earlier this month, he was with the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash League.
“I am really disappointed to hear that Australia have pulled out of the series to play us in March,” said Khan on social media.
“I take great pride in representing my country and we have made great progress on the world stage. This decision from Cricket Australia sets us back in that journey.
“If playing against Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia, then I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the Big Bash League. I will be strongly considering my future in that competition.”
Khan captained MI Cape Town to victory over the Paarl Royals in the opening fixture of the inaugural SA20 at Newlands earlier this week.
