Wicketkeeper-batsman joins Rondebosch Cricket Club after 1 season back at Claremont Cricket Club

Wicketkeeper-batsman Michael Appollis has joined Rondebosch Cricket Club ahead of the 2025-26 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Appollis won the 2022-23 WPCA premier league title with Claremont Cricket Club before joining Strandfontein Cricket Club for the 2023-24 first division A. He returned to Claremont Cricket Club for the 2024-25 season.

New Western Province batsman Joshua van Heerden has also committed to Rondebosch Cricket Club. Van Heerden has been contracted by Western Province from the Titans.

Claremont Cricket Club, meanwhile, have not yet replaced former head coach Allison Johnson.

Johnson was appointed in 2019. His tenure ended earlier this year.

“Claremont Cricket Club would like to announce that Allison Johnson will not be retained as head coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season,” read May 2025’s statement from the club.

“We extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Allison for his dedication, hard work and the contributions he has made during his time with the club. He achieved great success with the club during his six-year tenure as head coach.

“We wish him all the very best in his future endeavours, both personally and professionally.

“The club will soon begin the process of identifying and appointing a new head coach for the upcoming season.”
