Milnerton Cricket Club have named batsman Matthew Snyman captain, ahead of the 2019-20 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.

New captain

Snyman, who struck 330 runs in 13 innings at an average of 33 last season, has succeeded all-rounder Ryan Milne as captain.

Milnerton Cricket Club competed in the 2018-19 premier league, but were relegated to the 2019-20 first division A after finishing in ninth position in the 12-team standings. They won and lost as many games as eighth-placed Victoria Cricket Club, but had an inferior net run-rate and bonus-point tally.

New coach

The experienced Lightie Coetzee, meanwhile, has been hired as head coach. Coetzee has joined from Edgemead Cricket Club.

“I spent about 10 years at Edgemead Cricket Club and it was great to be with them, but at 59 years old it’s time for a bit of a change. It was great to work with guys like Simon Blake and Dylan Verreynne at Edgemead – and now I will work with the guys at Milnerton,” Coetzee told Club Cricket SA.

“The focus, as it should be with any team in this position, is to get back into the premier league. As a coach, you want to always move a team from the place they were to a better place.

“I want to take the club where they want to be – and help develop the players. Milnerton have a lot of youngsters, who learnt a lot from last season. There was positives from last season, despite relegation, and it’s exciting to be able to build on those positives with them.”
