Milnerton Cricket Club spinner Max Waller will join the Quetta Gladiators for this month’s Pakistan Super League.
Waller act as cover for West Indian spinner Sunil Narine, whose tournament arrival has been delayed by a finger injury.
“Obviously, it is tough to get a like-for-like replacement for a big player like Narine, but we have drafted in Waller and we are confident that he will add value to our team,” said Quetta Gladiators head coach Moin Khan.
“We hope to have Narine with us as soon as possible because he is a true match-winner. It’s a blow just before the start of the PSL, but we will try to cope with it. We have got depth in our squad as there are plenty other match-winners. We wish Narine a quick recovery and hope to welcome him very soon.”
The 30-year-old Waller, who plays county cricket for the United Kingdom during the South African winter, has been key to Milnerton Cricket Club’s 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association premier league campaign.
This month, the leg-spinner took six wickets across important victories over Cape Town Cricket Club and Rondebosch Cricket Club.
February’s wins haven’t lifted Milnerton Cricket Club from 10th position in the 12-team premier league standings, as a tough battle to avoid relegation to the first division A continues.
