England all-rounder Moeen Ali has withdrawn from the Joburg Super Kings’ squad for the inaugural edition of the SA20.
Ali will instead play for the Sharjah Warriors in the International League T20, which will coincide with the SA20 early next year.
What Ali said
“I will not be representing the franchise in the South African T20 league. Things never really panned out and sadly I have to miss out on the tournament. But I’m looking forward to representing the franchise in India and South Africa in the future,” said Ali.
“I just want to let you all know that I will be playing for the Sharjah Warriors in the upcoming first edition of the ILT20 in the UAE. It should be a great tournament.”
Ali had been signed by the Joburg Super Kings prior to 19 September 2022’s player auction.
They have also signed former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis, West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd, Knights seamer Gerald Coetzee and Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana.
The Joburg team is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, who also own a franchise in the Indian Premier League.
