Momentum retained as National Club Championship title sponsor

Momentum National Club Championship

Financial services provider, Momentum, will continue to sponsor the National Club Championship.

South Africa’s premier first-class and T20 tournaments lost sponsorship from the Willowton Group’s Sunfoil brand and Ram Couriers, respectively earlier this year. Momentum, however, will remain the title sponsor of the country’s leading club cricket competition.

“The National Club Championship has played a key role in developing the game and identifying young talent. Players such as Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Lungi Ngidi and Theunis de Bruyn are all great examples, having moved up the ranks to domestic and national team selection,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.

The University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks) are the 2018 National Club Championship title holders.

Tuks completed an undefeated campaign with a comfortable 121-run victory over Crusaders Cricket Club in late April. The Northerns Cricket Union outfit’s dominant campaign also featured relatively straightforward wins over the North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke), Wellington Cricket Club, Yorkshire Cricket Club and the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club.

The 2019 tournament is scheduled for 13 to 17 April – and is traditionally staged in Pretoria.

Momentum head of sponsorships Carel Bosman added: “The National Club Championship is such an exciting platform, as it is an opportunity for players to advance from school or youth level, all the way up to club, domestic, and for some – a chance to be selected to play for their country.”
