Seamer Mondli Khumalo won the Makhaya Ntini Power of Cricket Award at Cricket South Africa’s awards ceremony for the 2022-23 season on Friday.
The former South Africa Under-19 and KwaZulu-Natal seamer was physically assaulted while playing club cricket in England in 2022.
“Mondli Khumalo is a deserving recipient of this award after displaying the necessary tenacity to fight back from a brutal assault in the United Kingdom last year,” read a statement from CSA.
The award was introduced in 2021. It is named after former Proteas fast bowler Ntini. He was the Proteas’ first black African cricketer – and took more than 600 international wickets from 1998 to 2011.
