South Africa A fast bowlers Tshepo Moreki and Hardus Viljoen took three and two wickets, respectively.
Spinner Dane Piedt also took two wickets – and seamer Mihlali Mpongwana and captain Neil Brand one each.
South Africa A moved to three without loss – to reduce the deficit to 24 – prior to Wednesday’s close of play.
On day one, half-centurions Tony de Zorzi, Clyde Fortuin and Keegan Petersen pushed South Africa A’s first-innings total to 287 for nine declared.
