Former Proteas fast bowler Morne Morkel will play club cricket later this week.
Morkel will debut for Manly Warringah District Cricket Club against Randwick Petersham Cricket Club at the Coogee Oval in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday.
What Manly said about Morkel
“Morne is obviously coming towards the end of his wonderful cricket career and is keen to put back in at grassroots level,” Manly Warringah District Cricket Club president Andrew Fraser told Sporting News.
“He has been absolutely incredible with his time since we started our association with him. He’s mentoring the young players at training and happily mingled with our sponsors and officials at our golf day last week, where he was our special guest.
“It will be a proud moment in the club’s history when he turns out for us on Sunday. It’s not only great for Manly, it’s great for the whole Sydney premier competition.”
The 35-year-old Morkel lives in Manly and is contracted by Surrey in English county cricket. He will represent the Tshwane Spartans in the second edition of the Mzansi Super League in South Africa later this year.
