Mpumalanga have terminated head coach Gordon Matheson‘s contract ahead of the 2024-25 domestic season in South Africa.
Matheson confirmed the termination to Club Cricket SA.
He had joined Mpumalanga in 2021 – and held the post for three seasons.
Mpumalanga ended the 2022-23 and 2023-24 4-Day Domestic Series, division two, in last position. They collected one win, eight defeats and three draws across 12 fixtures in those two seasons.
Assistant coach Mbasa Gqadushe has been promoted to head coach.
Easterns keep Toyana
Easterns chief executive officer Wesley Coulentianos, meanwhile, has confirmed head coach Geoffrey Toyana and assistant coach Ephraim Nyawo have been retained.
Easterns ended the 2023-24 4-Day Domestic series, division tow, in second-last position. They won two, lost three and drew one fixture.
