Head coach Manny Senger emerged loud and proud, after Durbanville Cricket Club clinched the Multiply T20 Community Cup in Pretoria on Sunday.

Durbanville Cricket Club beat United Cricket Club, Bobbies Cricket Club, Kempton Park Cricket Club, Standard Cricket Club and Impala Cricket Club to succeed Jeppe Quondam Cricket Club as the reigning champions.

“The T20 Community Cup was the first national title won by a club team in the Western Province the past 19 years,” said and elated Senger.

“We do so much stuff as a group. Corrie van Zyl of Cricket South Africa commented that we look liked a happy team and a well-run unit.”

Western Province Cricket Association Nabeal Dien added: “We have a legacy of several cricket clubs in our area having plied their trade for decades and being a conveyer belt of excellence, with young players being nurtured there and later representing their provinces. We at the WPCA acknowledge Durbanville as one of those clubs, one that continuously sets new standards at club level in the province.”

Durbanville Cricket Club boasted two batsmen – Kudakwashe Samunderu and Pieter Malan – in the tournament’s top 10 run-scorers. They cherished three bowlers – Charlie Hartley, Brandon Viret and Leon le Roux – in the top 10 wicket-takers.

“This is a thrilling achievement, winning five out of five while continuing their proud club performances since 2014. They are setting new standards that other clubs in the Western Province are now aspiring to,” concluded WPCA president Beresford Williams.
