Former Boland and South Western Districts batsman Murray Commins has been named in Ireland’s squad for April 2023’s one-off Tests against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Commins debuted in ODI cricket for Ireland last month.
He is the son of former Proteas batsman Jon Commins, who played three Tests in the mid-1990s.
Commins junior has been playing first-class cricket in Ireland since 2019 – first for the Northern Knights and later Munster Reds. He debuted for Ireland A in 2021.
Commins was capped twice by Boland and eight times by South Western Districts at first-class level before pursuing a career in Ireland.
Former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batsman Peter Moor has also been included in Ireland’s Test squad.
Moor collected eight Tests, 49 ODIs and 21 T20Is for Zimbabwe from 2014 to 2019.
“Peter has played a bit of Test cricket in Bangladesh and gives us some experience in that middle order,” said Ireland coach Heinrich Malan.
“He has played international cricket before, and it’s nice to have someone with that calibre in and around our environment.”
Former Dolphins seamer Graham Hume and former South Africa Under-19 all-rounder Curis Campher have also been named in Ireland’s Test squad.
