Western Province Cricket Club seamer Kyle Klein has joined the Netherlands’ squad for this week’s two-ODI series against South Africa.
Klein played for Western Province Cricket Club in the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association premier league – and took 17 wickets in 13 innings.
He took figures of three for 30 in six overs for the Netherlands in this week’s fixture against the South African Invitation XI. He dismissed trio Jordan Hermann, Wihan Lubbe and Mihlali Mpongwana.
Klein played for Netherlands Under-19 in 2019. He is uncapped at ODI level.
He has joined brother Ryan Klein, who has played five ODIs and two T20Is, in the Netherlands squad for Friday’s series opener in Benoni and Sunday’s decider in Johannesburg.
Earlier this month, Netherlands named Western Province Cricket Club’s Ryan van Niekerk interim head coach.
Van Niekerk is filling the role in the absence of head coach Ryan Cook, who is working in the Indian Premier League.
Former Proteas head coach Russell Domingo and former Test batsman Heino Kuhn have also joined the Netherlands coaching staff.
“In addition to interim coach Ryan van Niekerk, top coach at the Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy in Cape Town, Heino Kuhn and Russell Domingo are also part of the coaching staff,” read a statement from the Netherlands.
