Rylands Cricket Club have appointed new head coach Mujahid Behardien ahead of the 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.

“I’m excited to be joining the leadership team at RCC. The transition from player to coach is both exhilarating and humbling. As a player, I’ve experienced the highs and lows on the field – and now I’m ready to channel that passion into guiding our team toward success in this new role,” said Behardien.

Rylands Cricket Club have been relegated to the WPCA first division A after ending the 2023-24 premier league in last position with six wins and 16 defeats.

“The management and coaching side of things has always intrigued me – and I’m eager to contribute my insights and strategies. Our club has a solid foundation, exceptional talent and a hunger for victory. With the structure now in place, I’m confident that we’ll achieve great things together,” added Behardien.

“Whether it’s tactical adjustments, player development and building on the culture we already have, I’m committed to returning RCC to its prior glory.

Behardien has effectively succeeded former Rylands Cricket Club head coach Nadeem Ahmed, who will remain among the support staff.

“Coach Nadeem, together with Ziyaad Parker, will join the leadership team, focusing on sharing their expertise in a consulting and recruitment role. We look forward to an exciting season under the guidance of Mujahid and are confident that his expertise will inspire our players,” read a statement from Rylands Cricket Club.

Spinner Shaheed Abader, meanwhile, has joined Rylands Cricket Club from United Cricket Club. All-rounder Mohammed Rahman has exited Rylands Cricket Club to rejoin Wynberg Cricket Club.
