Durban’s Super Giants have signed England all-rounder Liam Livingstone in season four of the SA20.
Livingstone has replaced the injured Tony de Zorzi in the DSG squad.
“De Zorzi has been released to focus on his rehabilitation ahead of the T20 World Cup next month,” read a statement from the SA20.
Livingstone has played in the SA20 previously, for MI Cape Town and the Pretoria Capitals.
He was recently with the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Durban’s Super Giants batsman Gysbert Wege has been diagnosed with myopericarditis – inflammation of the heart.
Wege, who plays for Boland in division one of South African domestic cricket, joined Durban’s Super Giants for season four of the SA20. He hadn’t yet debuted.
“From living the dream for the past two weeks and learning from some of the best players in the world, to having arguably the worst day of my life to date,” Wege wrote on social media.
“Out of the blue after some random chest pains it turned out I had been diagnosed with myopericarditis, an inflammation of the heart. At 21 years old, this is not something I ever had on my bingo card growing up. I didn’t even know what it was until a few days ago.
“That being said, we’re all dealt different cards in life, and all you can do is play the hand you’re given and simply make it work.
“Thank you to my close family and friends for all the care and help, it truly doesn’t go unnoticed. I’ve had a tough past few years with injuries, and this is just another stumbling block I’ll overcome. Time to rest up and recover fully. I’ll be back!”
