Western Province have retained division one status for the 2025-26 domestic season in South Africa.

They are hiring a successor to former head coach Salieg Nackerdien, who resigned last month. Former Proteas Justin Kemp and Rory Kleinveldt are among the candidates to succeed Nackerdien.

Western Province batsman Yaseen Vallie won’t be contracted after retiring recently. Seamers Onke Nyaku and Wesley Bedja have left for North West and the Warriors, respectively.

Former Western Province captain Wayne Parnell has left, too. He has joined the Tuskers.

WP have signed batsmen Joshua van Heerden and Jiveshan Pillay from the Titans and Warriors, respectively. Fast bowler Tshepo Moreki has returned to Western Province from the Lions.

Newlands, which remains an SA20 venue and continues to be developed commercially, will host international fixtures with Ireland Women in December 2025 and West Indies Men in January 2026.

“It was a season that was full of action on and off the field, with the newly refurbished media centre utilised for the first time during the Pakistan ODI on 19 December 2024. This world-class facility will now also serve as a flexible office space outside of match days, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Newlands,” said Western Province Cricket Association chief executive officer Corrie van Zyl.

“We are extremely proud of our own on-field achievements, as well as our performances as a hosting venue. We extend our gratitude to the board of WPCA, all staff, sponsors, suppliers, the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government for their role in successfully delivering international and SA20 matches.

“Lastly, I thank every youth, club and school’s coach, administrator, match official and volunteer who has contributed to one of our most successful provincial youth cricket campaigns to date. Team performances and CSA national inclusions were commonplace – a clear reflection of WPCA’s strategic goal to foster pathways and maintain high performance.”

Western Province have retained existing sponsors – and new sponsorships and partnerships have been introduced. These include:

  • World Sports Betting;
  • Tractor Outdoor;
  • Southern Sun;
  • Heart FM; and
  • Mobi G Industries.
