Proteas batsman Matthew Breetzke won’t join Northamptonshire in English county cricket in 2026.
Breetzke played one first-class and 24 T20 fixtures for Northamptonshire from 2024 to 2025.
“I’ve really enjoyed the last two years with the Steelbacks but with the amount of cricket coming up, it wouldn’t be fair to return and not be there for all the games.” said Breetzke.
Australian batsman Chris Lynn has effectively replaced Breetzke at Northamptonshire.
Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann added: “We would’ve loved to have seen Matt back, but being able to have an overseas player with us throughout the whole tournament will hopefully help us keep a good rhythm and settled squad.
“We all know the class that Lynn will bring to the side, he’s had a lot of success here and we’re hoping for more of the same. His power and ball striking is second to none and he has the ability to take control of games very quickly.”
