Eersterust Cricket Club, Christian Brothers’ College Old Boys Cricket Club, Irene Villagers Cricket Club and Moot Cricket Club players were the key winners at the 2017-18 Northerns Cricket Union awards recently.
Christian Brothers’ College Old Boys Cricket Club’s Regardt Verster was named the premier league Batsman of the Year, having scored 563 runs in a dozen innings. He scored a century and four half-tons – and averaged an impressive 70.4.
Irene Villagers Cricket Club’s Zendon Verster clinched the premier league Bowler of the Year accolade, on the back of 29 wickets in 13 appearances. The talented all-rounder also secured the Club Player of the Year prize, with 497 runs in 12 innings.
Moot Cricket Club’s Armand Krugel took the promotion league Batsman of the Year trophy. His 13 innings yielded two centuries and two half-tons en route to 646 runs at an average of 64.60.
Former St Augustine Cricket Club seamer Denovan Ekstraal’s move from Cape Town to Pretoria brought a successful maiden season for Eersterust Cricket Club. Ekstraal relished 25 wickets in 11 matches – and the promotion league Bowler of the Year award.
