Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club have recruited Gloucestershire batsman Ian Cockbain, ahead of the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association season.
Cockbain was key to Gloucestershire’s 2018 Vitality Blast campaign, which ended in quarter-final defeat to Worcestershire in late August.
The right-hander’s big-hitting prowess was particularly evident during an entertaining 123, which spanned a mere 61 deliveries, against Middlesex in early August.
Meanwhile, Milnerton Cricket Club’s Robin van Harte has joined Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club, too.
Van Harte has left the premier league club for a player-coach position at the first division A club.
“I guess my move to Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club will be a shock to most, but after much deliberation and some sleepless nights, I felt it was the right time and right club for me to join,” van Harte told Club Cricket SA.
Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club occupied 11th position in 2017-18’s 12-team first division A standings, after just one victory in seven matches.
However, they were not demoted to the first division B, as the early end to the season due to the drought in Cape Town and surrounds effectively negated promotion and relegation for all teams.
Premier league and first division A cricket has since been changed from two- to one-day competition. The decision will stand for the 2018-19 season and, later, be re-evaluated for a potential return to two-day cricket in 2019-20.
