Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne will join Nottinghamshire in the 2024 County Championship in the United Kingdom.

Verreynne has played 18 Tests and 12 ODIs since debuting in international cricket in 2020.

The 27-year-old Verreynne averages 49 in first-class cricket – and was recently named Western Province’s Player of the Year.

“It’s great to add someone of Kyle’s experience and quality with the bat to our squad at what is a crucial point in the County Championship season,” said Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores.

His record speaks for itself and with him arriving off the back of a Test series, we’ll benefit from a player who is match ready in many aspects.

“We’re looking forward to getting him settled in before a big fixture against Surrey, for which we know we’ll need to be at our very best.

Verreynne will eventually play for Nottinghamshire alongside Western Province and Proteas team-mate Dane Paterson, who is currently on paternity leave.

“I’m sure Kyle will welcome having that familiar face in the dressing room when Dane returns,” added Moores.

“Of course, we’re delighted to hear Dane’s news and we’re looking forward to welcoming him back to the squad ahead of the Essex game to bolster our bowling options.”

Verreynne was appointed South Africa A captain prior to joining Nottinghamshire. Proteas batter Matthew Breetzke has since been named SA A captain in Verreynne’s absence – and North West batsman Meeka-eel Prince has been added to the squad.
