Old Grey Cricket Club have welcomed the services of Ireland all-rounder Stuart Thompson for February and March 2018, according to Cricket Europe.
Thompson’s arrival will bolster the batting and bowling resources of Old Grey Cricket Club, who are jostling for position in the top half of the 2017-18 Eastern Province Cricket premier league standings.
The 26-year-old left-handed batsman and right-arm seamer has played 20 ODIs and as many T20Is – and boasts a highest score of 56 against Afghanistan last year.
Earlier this season, Northamptonshire all-rounder William Thomas joined Old Grey Cricket Club.
He is the son of former England cricketer Greg Thomas, who played five Tests and three ODIs in the late 1980s.
Thomas junior has represented Northamptonshire’s under-23 and second XI – and enjoyed a standout 2017 season for Brixworth Cricket Club in the Northamptonshire Cricket League’s premier league.
“It is wonderful to have UK club cricketers coming out to South Africa to play cricket,” former Proteas batsman and current Old Grey Cricket Club chairman Dave Callaghan told Club Cricket SA.
“Overseas players certainly lift the standard of club cricket – and assist with the development of the game.”
