Former Western Province Cricket Club seamer Travis Muller has again been contracted by Otago for New Zealand’s 2022-23 domestic season.
Muller played first-class cricket for Western Province and the Cape Cobras in South Africa before relocating to New Zealand. He was first contracted by Otago in July 2021.
Former South Africa Under-19 batsman Dean Foxcroft has also accepted an Otago contract. He hasn’t played professional cricket in New Zealand since March 2020, largely due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In the interim, Foxcroft has played for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League and Pretoria High School Old Boys Cricket Club in the Northerns Cricket premier league.
Former Western Province Cricket Club all-rounder Michael Rippon, who was recently named in the New Zealand squad for the first time, has also been retained among Otago’s contracted players.
What Otago head coach Dion Ebrahim said
“It is exciting to have a great blend of experience and young talent in our first-round contract list for the coming season,” said Ebrahim, who used to play international cricket for Zimbabwe.
“Newcomers Jacob Cumming and Ben Lockrose have earned their spots by virtue of their club, A and provincial form. Andrew Hazeldine transferring down from Canterbury gives us a point of difference in our bowling attack with his raw pace, left-arm seam and aggressive mindset.”
“These new players will complement a team that is sprinkled with provincial and Black Caps experience. We are all looking forward to the new season.”
