Green Point Cricket Club have recruited Ottoman Cricket Club’s Joshua Savage and Montrose Cricket Club’s Muneer Alexander, ahead of the 2019-20 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.
The move is effectively a step up for all-rounder Alexander, who has left a first division B club. He spent several seasons at United Cricket Club before joining Montrose Cricket Club for one.
“I am grateful to chairman Razeen Allie and Montrose Cricket Club for the opportunity to be part of a club with great history. In saying that, though, I look forward to the new chapter that awaits at Green Point Cricket Club,” Alexander told Club Cricket SA.
“With what is a consistent club and team, I will do my utmost to help build on the continued growth toward a successful season ahead.”
Seamer Savage’s change to Green Point Cricket Club is lateral, as Ottoman Cricket Club are also in the first division A after being relegated from the premier league.
“It was a good time at Ottoman Cricket Club. I really appreciated it there. They treated me very well and I wish them all the best. In terms of moving on, the time seems right. Green Point Cricket Club will bring a fresh challenge – and I want to help them in the quest for promotion to the premier league, where hopefully they can eventually become an established presence,” added Savage.
Green Point Cricket Club finished the 2018-19 first division A in ninth position. They won nine of 22 matches. Two more victories than 10th-placed Avendale Cricket Club helped Green Point Cricket Club avoid relegation to the 2019-20 first division B.
