Six matches were played on day two of the 2023 Over-50 World Cup in Cape Town on Tuesday, 7 March.
Four of Tuesday’s six matches were won by the team batting second.
South Africa Over-50 v Pakistan Over-50
South Africa beat Pakistan by five wickets at Reddam House School, Constantia.
Muhammad Hafeez and Muhammad Jaffer Qureshi scored half-centuries in Pakistan’s total of 206 for nine in 45 overs. Saleem Mukuddem completed figures of five for 36 in nine overs for South Africa.
South Africa replied with 207 for five in 43.4 overs. Mukuddem and Mario Solomons hit 48 not out and 65 not out, respectively. Qureshi and Imtiaz Ahmad took two wickets each for Pakistan.
South Africa remain undefeated at the 2023 Over-50 World Cup after beating India on day one.
Zimbabwe Over-50 v West Indies Over-50
Zimbabwe beat the West indies by four wickets at Milnerton High School.
Zamin Amin hit 49 not out in the West Indies’ total of 171 for seven in 45 overs. Michael van Staden and Andrew Walton took three wickets each for Zimbabwe.
Stuart Carlisle and Murray Goodwin struck 57 each in Zimbabwe’s reply of 172 for six in 38.1 overs. Chanderpaul Singh took two wickets for the West Indies.
India Over-50 v Namibia Over-50
India beat Namibia by eight wickets at Westerford High School.
Piers le Strange top-scored with 40 in Namibia’s total of 106 all out in 34.1 overs. Krish Subramanian, Samarth Hegde and Kamlesh Desai took two wickets each for India.
India replied with 107 for two in 16.3 overs. Nishit Shetty top-scored with 47 not out for India. Kenford Joseph and Isidor Titus took a wicket each for Namibia.
England Over-50 v UAE Over-50
England beat the United Arab Emirates by 56 runs at Bishops Diocesan College.
Richard Trotman hit 104 in England’s total of 216 for nine in 45 overs. Ambey Parwatkar, Rehan Khan and Asad Rizvi took two wickets each for the United Arab Emirates.
Khurram Khan struck 59 in the United Arab Emirates’ response of 160 all out in 39 overs. Mehboob Elahi completed figures of four for 43 in nine overs for England.
England remain undefeated at the 2023 Over-50 World Cup after beating Namibia on day one.
USA Over-50 v Australia Over-50
The United States of America beat Australia by four wickets at the South African College of Schools (SACS).
Damien Meek top-scored with 20 in Australia’s total of 103 all out in 37.4 overs. Sajith Fernando took three wickets for the USA.
Fernando top-scored with 34 in the USA’s reply of 107 for six in 23.5 overs. Tim Sargent took two wickets for Australia.
Reigning champions Australia have not registered a win at the 2023 Over-50 World Cup. They lost to Sri Lanka on day one.
Sri Lanka Over-50 v New Zealand Over-50
Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 16 runs at Wynberg Boys’ High School.
Suranjith Dharmasena top-scored with 36 in Sri Lanka’s total of 193 all out in 42 overs. Andrew Nuttall took three wickets for New Zealand.
Adrian Dale hit 46 in New Zealand’s reply of 177 all out in 43.4 overs. Ruvin Peiris completed figures of four for 18 in nine overs for Sri Lanka.
